Log-Commons Methodology Seminar: Introduction to Ethnography of Infrastructure and Logistics

On April 22 we went to the first seminar of the “The Logistics of the Commons” project (PHS-2024/PH-HUM-336) in which we participate as a research group, with Adrián Almazán and Andoni Alonso as IPS and with a consortium formed by the Antrosocul (CSIC) groups and the GECU (UNED). The project is funded by the Community of Madrid in its R&D call in human and social processes.

The Seminar, entitled “Log-Commons Methodology Seminar: Introduction to the Ethnography of Infrastructure and Logistics”, was held from 10.00 to 14.00h in the María Moliner room of the Center for Human and Social Sciences (CSIC), in charge of Alberto Corsín, scientific researcher of the CSIC.

The objective of this project is to understand how local communities in Madrid design and deploy three logistics work regimes: networks and routes for the circulation of people, information and resources; infrastructure and physical and digital equipment; and methodological assemblies that facilitate the exchange of knowledge and competences. The project studies how these configurations operate in three types of urban commons: food sovereignty projects (urban agroecology), initiatives linked to the right to the city (housing movements and against gentrification) and social inclusion projects (care networks, food banks and support for migrants).

For the development of work, anthropology approaches, Social Studies of Science and Technology (STS), Critical Urban Studies, Ecological Humanities and Decreasing are combined. Logcommons-CM seeks to contribute an innovative perspective on urban democracy after the Covid-19 pandemic, exploring how communities manage logistics and technological resources in contexts of citizen participation. Through research, a resilience index of urban commons will be developed, providing analytical and operational tools to strengthen community networks and their incidence in urban, environmental and social justice.
