13/03 “The EU’s Chainsaw in the Service of Fossil Capital” with Tom Kucharz THECO, 02/03/202616/04/2026 We are pleased to invite you to a discussion session on the article “The EU’s Chainsaw in the Service of Fossil Capital”, published in El Salto and written by Tom Kucharz. The session will be led by the author himself, who will present and discuss the main arguments of the text. The article critically examines the direction of recent European Union policies framed under the notion of “regulatory simplification.” Through an analysis of the new legislative packages known as “Omnibus,” the author explores how certain institutional initiatives aim to reduce or weaken environmental and social regulations that had previously been adopted, particularly those related to corporate accountability, climate protection, and human rights. The text also addresses the role of major corporate actors and lobbying groups in this process, highlighting how sectors linked to fossil capital and large industries have intensified their influence on European institutions in order to weaken regulatory mechanisms that could affect their economic interests. It also examines the geopolitical and economic tensions shaping European climate policy, including international pressures and internal dynamics among different political blocs within the EU.
