24/04 | THECO’s Permanent Seminar THECO, 05/04/202623/04/2026 On 24 April, Álvaro San Román will be speaking at the THECO Permanent Seminar, in a session entitled ‘Technowest: the technogenesis of the West on the threshold of the Technowestocene’. The session will take place in the usual room (17.2.47, Building 17 – Getafe Campus) and can also be followed via the ONLINE THECO link. The session will address a significant part of the doctoral research carried out by Álvaro San Román on the subject of technology as a Western civilisational project—a project that has led planetary life, in all its manifestations, to the current crisis. Tracing the genealogy of the main ideas and beliefs that have shaped our culture, technology will emerge as an anthropogenic principle—in constituting the human—a cosmogenic principle—in shaping Nature—and a normative principle—in establishing a technocentric relationship with the environment. These beliefs remain operative to this day, underpinning the latest totalitarian drive of Techno-West: the development and forced implementation of AI, understood not only as a total social revolution, but primarily as an ontological revolution. To conclude the session, we will examine the popular science and philosophy project “La Réplica”, published in the Rebelión journal, as a practical application of the main theoretical conclusions of this doctoral research, and as a forum for discussion. The session will be moderated by Sofía Pérez Baeza (PhD candidate, UC3M) Researcher: Álvaro San Román (UNED) Alvaro San Román Gómez (1986) is a predoctoral researcher (FPI) in the department of Philosophy and Moral and Political Philosophy of the Faculty of Philosophy of the UNED, graduated in Philosophy from the UNED, Master’s Degree in Theoretical and Practical Philosophy in the specialty of History of Philosophy and Contemporary Thought from UNED, and University Expert Diploma in History and Philosophy of Religions.
