THECO – Technic and Ecological Humanities We are an interdisciplinary group of researchers who start from a basic idea: societies are eco-dependent. We cannot, therefore, continue to create Humanities that turn their backs on the material, planetary conditions in which we live. We need “Ecological Humanities” that assume a perspective of symbiosis between nature and culture, reintegrating human systems into natural systems and clearing paths for a new non-anthropocentric humanism that is essential for moving towards Degrowth. Our research distances us from industrial capitalism and its destructive ecological and social dynamics. Our aim is to oppose extractivism and colonialism, to work to overcome the suicidal paradigm of economic growth and to dismantle all the illusions of the new “green and digital” capitalism. To this end, we consider it essential to interweave the Philosophy of Technology with the Ecological Humanities in order to understand the responsibility of technology in the current trajectories of eco-social collapse. We also want to advance in the construction of humble techniques compatible with degrowth societies. We are based at the Carlos III University of Madrid, although the group is made up of an international network of researchers from other universities and research centres.
